Preface

This volume collects all contributions presented at the Iberoamerican Meeting on Ontological Research, held on May 16th, 2011 in the beautiful and charming city of Gramado, Brazil. This meeting occurred under the umbrella of the International Outreach program of the International Association for Ontologies and Applications (IAOA – www.iaoa.org), and was organized in the context of the 6th Iberoamerican Conference on Telematics – CITA 2011.

This successful meeting promoted a scientific gathering for the different groups doing research related to Ontological Engineering and Applications of Ontology in Iberoamerica. There were presentations of research groups from all over Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay, covering a wide spectrum of domains (Oil and Gas Exploration and Production, Industrial Enterprises, Software Development, Biodiversity), applications (Data Management and Information integration, Semantic Interoperability, Text Extraction), and ontological levels.

We would like to express our gratitude to the authors for submitting their research agendas to the meeting, and we sincerely hope that this important initiative contributes to increase the community self-awareness and to foster collaboration opportunities among research groups, thus fomenting the creation of a de facto Iberoamerican Community on Ontological Engineering in the future.

Sincerely, The workshop organizers

Giancarlo Guizzardi, Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), Brazil José Palazzo M. de Oliveira, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul(UFRGS), Brazil Fernanda Baião, Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), Brazil
