Preface

The Workshop on Controlled Natural Language (CNL 2009) — that will take place 8–10 June 2009 on the Sicilian island Marettimo — is dedicated to discussing theoretical and practical aspects of controlled natural languages, relations to other knowledge representation languages, tool support, and cur- rent and future applications.

Altogether 31 extended abstracts were submitted to CNL 2009, of which the programme committee accepted 24. Two accepted abstracts were later withdrawn by their authors. This volume contains the extended abstracts of the 22 papers that will be presented at CNL 2009.

As programme chair I would like to take the opportunity to thank the many people without whose support organising the workshop would not have been possible.

My first thanks go to the members of the programme committee who care- fully reviewed all submissions: Piero Bonatti (University of Naples), Johan Bos (University of Rome “La Sapienza”), Peter E.
