MODULE 4:

NAVIGATING THE TESTING PLATFORMS

INTRODUCTION

Becoming familiar with the software being used to deliver the 2021 Clinical Component will help candidates feel more confident and prepared going into their exam.

This module will introduce candidates to the software platforms being used to deliver the exam and provide step-by-step direction to navigating these platforms.

INTRODUCTION TO EXAM SOFTWARE PLATFORMS

During the exam, you will interact with two online platforms: ProctorU and SIMULATIONiQ.

ProctorU is a remote proctoring platform through which you will login and complete the check-in process each day of the exam.

ProctorU and CAPR will provide you with your account information prior to the exam. There is no need to create an account.

SIMULATIONiQ is a virtual health care delivery platform. You will complete the exam stations on the platform.

You will be logged into the platform by your ProctorU proctor after you complete the check-in process.

SET-UP STEPS TO TAKE BEFORE THE EXAM

Prior to the first day of your exam, complete the following preparatory steps.

3.1 Download Google Chrome

If you do not already have Google Chrome on your computer, you will need to download it for free from the internet. To do so:

3.2 Add the ProctorU Extension to Chrome

Next, you will need to add the ProctorU extension to Chrome. To do so:

2. Scroll down the page until you see the “Other Requirements”

subheading.

3. On the right-hand side of the page, click the link to download the ProctorU Extension for Chrome.

When you see the ProctorU extension in the chrome web store:

4. Click “Add to Chrome”.

In the “Add ‘ProctorU’?” pop-up window:

5. Click “Add Extension”.

The ProctorU Extension will be added to your Chrome web browser.

3.3 Test Your Equipment

CAPR and ProctorU will provide you with your ProctorU account login information prior to the exam.

To confirm your computer hardware and network meet the requirements, you can test your

equipment within ProctorU. To complete the test, you must first download the ProctorU extension (see above) and close all other programs on your computer.

You will see your ProctorU dashboard.

3. Click the “Test Your Equipment”

widget at the top, centre of your dashboard.

4. Click “Allow” to let ProctorU access your camera and microphone.

ProctorU will run a test of your equipment.

Successful tests are indicated by green checkmarks.

An unsuccessful test is indicated by a red “X”.

In the event of an unsuccessful test, scroll down the page for details about the reason for the failure.

NOTE: If you are using an external webcam, microphone or speaker, you can manually select the appropriate equipment before performing your test.

3.4 Review ProctorU’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy

During the check-in process, you will be asked to agree to ProctorU’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

NAVIGATING ProctorU

On exam days 1 and 2, you will login through ProctorU to begin the exam. You will be able to login within 15 minutes of your scheduled start time.

Signing In

1. Go to

2. Sign In to your ProctorU account.

You will see your ProctorU dashboard.

3. Click “Start Session”.

NOTE: If it is still too early to begin the check-in process, you will see a countdown timer instead of the option to “Start Session.”

Connecting to a proctor

When you see the “Welcome to ProctorU!” screen,

1. Click “Download” to connect to a live proctor.

You will see the “Download and Install” screen.

When the “LogMeInRescue.exe”

file finishes downloading:

2. Click the downloaded file in the left bottom corner of your screen to open the application.

NOTE: The application may take a moment to begin running. Please be patient.

When the application begins to run, a chat window will open on the left-hand side of your screen.

When you see the chat box, 3. Click the “I see the chat box”

button to continue.

When a connection with a proctor is made, the chat box will indicate that a “Support session has been established with [name of proctor]”.

You may now use the chat box to communicate with your proctor.

NOTE: If you do not see the chat box, check your taskbar to see if the ProctorU owl icon is visible. If it is, click the icon to open the chat box. If you do not see the icon, click the “Need Help?” button to contact ProctorU technical support.

The proctor will request permission to ‘remote in’ to your computer and take control of your mouse in order to proceed with the check-in process.

4. Click “OK” and await further instructions from your proctor.

NOTE: The proctor will now place a voice call to your computer and introduce themselves. They may walk you through the next steps.

Pre-check in

You will see the “Exam Rule Check”

screen.

1. Review the Exam Rules and click “Agree.”

PLEASE NOTE: the image shown is for illustrative purposes only (i.e., Clinical Component exam rules not shown). Please review Preparatory Modules 1-5 for exam rules.

You will see the Government ID screen.

2. Hold up your ID close to your webcam.

3. Click “Take Photo”.

NOTE: Image is for illustrative purposes. Ensure your name and contact information are clearly visible when you take the photo.

You will see the “Test Session Recording Notice and Consent”

screen.

4. Review the terms.

5. Click the check box.

6. Click the “I Agree” button.

You will be asked to share your screen. When the “Share your entire screen” pop-up window opens:

7. Click on the image of your screen.

8. Click “Share”.

You will see the “Terms of service”

screen.

9. Click the first check box to acknowledge the exam rules.

10. Click the second check box to agree to ProctorU’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

11. Click “I Agree”.

You will be asked to make sure the LogMeIn (LMI) application is still running.

NOTE: While LMI is running, you will see the ProctorU owl icon active in your task bar. If you minimize the chat box by accident, click the owl icon to re-open.

System Check

The proctor will now use their remote access to review your computer settings and ensure they meet the security requirements for the exam (see Preparatory Module 2 for complete details about prohibited equipment and settings).

Candidate Check

The proctor will check your ears and wrists and may ask to see the your photo ID again. See Module 5: Candidate Guide to Exam Logistics and Policies for details.

Permitted Items Check

The proctor will then check your permitted items. See Module 5: Candidate Guide to Exam Logistics and Policies for details.

Environmental Check

The proctor will direct you through the environmental check. See Module 5: Candidate Guide to Exam Logistics and Policies for details.

NAVIGATING SIMULATIONiQ

You will complete the Clinical Component exam stations on the SIMULATIONiQ platform. The following information will help you become familiar with the functionality of the platform.

Transfer into SIMULATIONiQ After completing the

Environmental Check, the

ProctorU proctor will navigate to the SIMULATIONiQ, enter your Candidate ID and log you into the system.

NOTE: Login information will not be provided to candidates.

The Waiting Room

You will arrive in the waiting room for your first station.

You will see a countdown timer below your candidate profile picture.

When the countdown timer runs out, the platform will move you into your first “pre-encounter”

where you will review the

“Instructions to Candidate” for the station.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT NAVIGATE AWAY FROM THE WAITING ROOM SCREEN. DO NOT CLICK ANY LINKS. You must stay in the waiting room to continue forward with the Clinical Component.

The Pre-encounter

You will see the “Instructions to Candidate” within a PDF viewer window.

1. Scroll down to view the entire document.

NOTE: You can use the orange arrow to expand the width of the viewer.

A countdown timer shows you the time remaining for your pre- encounter.

When the countdown timer runs out, you will be moved

automatcally by the platform into the first station.

NOTE: You will see a spinning orange circle when you are about to move from one place to the next on the platform.

The Clinical Station

You will enter a Zoom breakout room, where the Standardized Client and Examiner will be waiting.

You will see a pop-up window at the top, left-hand side of your screen.

1. Click “Allow” on the pop-up window.

Your audio and video will then connect automatically. You will not need to repeat this action for subsequent stations.

Once connected, you will begin your interaction with the

Standardized Client, who you will see on your screen.

A countdown timer will be visible at the top, left-hand side of the screen.

NOTE: You will see that the Examiner is present in the room, but the Examiner’s camera will be off for the duration of the station. In some stations, the Examiner will speak to you. This will be indicated in the

“Instructions to Candidate” for the station.

If you wish to see the

“Instructions to Candidate”

during the station, say aloud:

2. “May I see the “Instructions to Candidate, please?”

The “Instructions to Candidate”

will appear in a PDF reader on the left-hand side of your screen.

When you wish to minimize the

“Instructions to Candidate”:

3. Click the ‘Video View’ icon, located to the left of the PDF viewer to minimize the Instructions.

After requesting the “Instructions to Candidate” you can access them again at any time by clicking the Video View icon.

When the countdown timer for the station runs out, the station will end automatically, and you will move on to the pre-

encounter area (“Instructions to Candidate”) for the next station.

Beginning the next station The next pre-encounter will begin, and the pre-encounter countdown timer will begin counting down.

When the timer reaches 0:00, you will be moved into the next station.

You will complete six stations on both Day 1 and Day 2 of the exam.

Finishing the Exam

When you have completed the sixth station of the day, you will see a screen that indicates you have completed the exam.

1. Click “Click here to logout” to exit the SIMULATIONiQ platform.

To end your proctoring session with ProctorU:

2. Re-open the ProctorU chat box by clicking on the owl icon.

3. Click the red “X” button to disconnect from the proctoring platform.

When you have closed the ProctorU platform, you will see a survey screen.

NOTE: The ProctorU survey relates to the proctoring aspect of the exam only and is optional.

Within a few days of completing the Clinical Component, you will be emailed a survey link where you can provide feedback to CAPR about your exam experience.
