Abstract -This work presents a study on optical fiber sensors and their importance in various fields.
Despite the existence of electrical sensors used through many years in measuring physical and electrical phenomena but there are still problems such as transmission losses, susceptibility to electromagnetic interference (noise) ... etc.. [1]. which makes them less efficient use. To solve these problems and saw the need for sensors in the industry, researchers found that the most excellent solution is to be replaced by optical sensors that are now used in most systems, instrumentation as well as communication systems and control.
Introduction-Parallel to the long development of optical fibers for over 30 years in telecommunications and after the discovery of laser diodes, many studies have focused on their use in instrumentation and sensors. Optical sensors have replaced conventional sensor although the latter were used as the standard mechanism for measuring physical and mechanical phenomena but they have some limitations such as; transmission loss and sensitivity to electromagnetic interference [2].The first sensors have emerged in the 70s, the realization of their full potential really dates from the beginning of the next decade. [2] After more than twenty years of research and development, CFO (Sensor Fiber Optic) now offer the same functions as conventional sensors while presenting specifics related to those fibers. All this gives this instrumentation determinants vis-à-vis other sensor technologies advantages: low intrusiveness, possible use in harsh environments ... and of course excellent metrological performance in terms of sensitivity, response time, range of use ... etc. [2].From this study we will clarify the importance of this type of fiber optic sensor especially type how use fiber Bragg grating sensor.
Conclusion- More recently research has been oriented to sensors based on optical fiber because of their advantages and performances. Indeed, the optical fiber has a low weight and small size means less disruption, in addition to electrical safety and immunity to electromagnetic interference. Also one of the key parameters of the use of the optical fiber in the area sensors is its ability to analyze at long distance with high resolution in media access difficult or dangerous. As can be distributed sensors and sensor networks. For this importance of optical fiber sensors we have tried to show their use in industry, so we tried to give a survey of various types of them in which we are interested by fiber Bragg grating sensor.
