(1)NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION IN OR INTO THE UNITED STATES. 13 April 2007 – Fortis, Royal Bank of Scotland et Santander A la suite des récentes spéculations dans la presse, Fortis, Royal Bank of Scotland et Santander (ci-après "les Banques"), confirment avoir adressé aux Présidents du Conseil de Surveillance et du Directoire d'ABN-Amro, une lettre conjointe les informant du souhait des Banques de formuler une proposition d'acquisition d' ABN-Amro, et de collaborer avec ABN-Amro en vue de présenter une offre à ses actionnaires. Les Banques ont demandé l'accès aux mêmes informations que Barclays. Les Banques espèrent entamer des discussions avec le Conseil de Surveillance ainsi qu'avec le Directoire d' ABN-Amro, sans pouvoir garantir que ces discussions aboutiront à une transaction, et sans préjuger de la forme que pourrait prendre cette transaction.
