P.E.I: Speech from the Throne, First Session of the Fifty-Third General Assembly, May, 1974

In the name of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, it is my privilege to welcome you to this the First Session of the Fifty-Third General Assembly of the Province of Prince Edward Island.

I would like to welcome to this First Session of the Fifty-Third General Assembly the freshmen members who have gained the opportunity to serve their Province in the highest elective office. At the same time I would like, on behalf of the Province of Prince Edward Island, to express thanks and appreciation for services rendered by those former members who have not returned

At the opening of the Fifth Session of the Fifty-Second General Assembly, programs, policies and proposed legislation of my Government were outlined. You will be asked to continue deliberations upon these and such other additional initiatives which my Ministers shall propose to this present Session of the Assembly.

The people of Prince Edward Island have clearly expressed their support for the continuation of the social and economic programs advanced by my Government. As Members of this Assembly you have great responsibility. The strength of our Province in human and physical resources will assist you in the exercising of that responsibility.

May Divine Providence guide your deliberations.
