Little Sister Is a Diplodocus

Aurore Petit

The encounter between a big brother and his young sister is often, if not always, a whole new story.

A story about a tyrannosaurus and a story about a diplodocus, but above all, a love story.

• Following the success of these two previous titles, Bébé ventre and Une maman, c’est comme une maison (21,000 copies sold), this is the third title of this very well received series.

• The arrival of the second child is often a difficult step. Picture books about this subject matter are sought out in bookstores, and Aurore Petit offers her striking, very relatable, and unique point of view.

When Little Sister arrives home, her big brother is delighted at first to be able to share his toys and hobbies with the newcomer. But when he realizes that this tiny human being is taking up a huge space, and that he cannot do anything fun with her, Big Brother’s heart fills with deceit and anger. He suddenly turns into a tyrannosaurus, ready to fight with this giant dinosaur, tiny Little Sister.

A subtle, sweet story, that will appeal to many parents and children, especially to the readers who have read the two previous picture books by Aurore Petit and have grown with them.

Björn – A Busy Life

Delphine Perret

Summer is here! In the forest, Björn and his friends are back for six stories, as funny as they are delicate.

The animals try out human activities, and Björn chooses the one he likes most: doing nothing.

• A picture book written and illustrated by Delphine Perret, a leading author and illustrator of the Fourmis Rouges list – and one of the most talented and recognized artists of her generation.

• The first two volumes were critically-acclaimed and a commercial success, selling over 15,000 copies in all.

Delphine Perret

A graduate of the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg, Delphine Perret is an author, illustrator and sometimes both of numerous picture books and novels for young people. She has published around thirty books, notably with Les Fourmis Rouges, Thierry Magnier, Gallimard...

Her style is minimalistic, and she often explores the relationship between text and illustration.

The weather is mild outside, summer has come. In the forest, Bjorn the delicate and lazy bear and his friends – the hare, the owl, the badger, the tit… – try out human activities. They manufacture tickets to go and see an exhibition, collect trash left behind by the humans, play hide and seek with an ornithologist, open a restaurant, and even think about writing a book! But when the unexpected arises, such as the fall of a beautiful red leaf or the arrival of rain, Björn stops everything he’s doing. Because the most important thing to do is to contemplate those tiny things in which all the beauty of the world resides.

Björn, the endearing bear is back to make us appreciate the little details that will bring us great joy, in black fine illustrations on full yellow pages.

The Family Picture

Chloé Millet & Delphine Jacquot

Today is Diego’s birthday! Along his feathered cousins, he is planning a big party in the rainforest.

But first, the traditional family photo shoot must take place, and that’s not an easy task...

• Delphine Jacquot’s illustrations are appreciated by many professionals and readers. Her technique and mastery seduce everyone!

• A large and beautiful book, between fiction and documentary, which lists many species of birds illustrated in detail.

Delphine Jacquot

Delphine Jacquot is a graphic and model designer. She also holds a degree in communication from the Beaux-Arts in Rennes, France. She works a lot with notebooks, draws and creates collage, using several techniques.

Let’s meet Diego, an Ara Macao Parrot, a species known for breaking longevity records. In the Amazonian Forest, a gigantic banquet offering tons of seeds and maggots has been set for the occasion, and all the birds gathered are getting impatient: the party can soon begin! But first, the traditional family photo must be taken!

Athena, the owl photographer, calls everyone to get in place, but nothing goes as planned.

The poultry grumble, the cuckoo does not stay still, the ostrich stands in front of everyone, the nocturnal birds doze off... a total mess!

Chloé Millet

Chloé Millet has been passionate about writing, cinema, and the visual arts since a young age.

She is currently both an author and a bookseller in Montpellier, where she leads writing workshops and

encounters with authors.

Delphine Jacquot’s first picture book published at Les Fourmis Rouges sold 9,000 copies. It won the Grand Illustration Prize in Moulins, France.

Where Is It?

Marie Mirgaine

The story of a man who looks everywhere for his wig that has flown away. Along the way, he encounters a cat, seaweed and even covers himself in cow dung…

• A funny and subtle book for toddlers, which plays on the comedy of repetition with great mastery.

• Marie Mirgaine signs her third picture book with Les Fourmis Rouges. Her first picture book, Kiki en promenade, acclaimed by critics, was nominated for the Pépites Prizes at the Montreuil Book Fair and received a mention at the Bologna Book Fair in 2020.

Marie Mirgaine

Since she graduated in illustration at the Haute École des Arts du Rhin in 2015, Marie Mirgaine has lived and worked in Lyon, France. This artist is multitalented and works with various techniques (collage, watercolor, volume…) She collaborates with the press (The New York Times, the Biscoto newspaper, etc.), exhibits her works in various places, creates live shows and showcases, and conducts art workshops for children.

A wig flies off. “Here it is!” exclaims its owner when he spots a mass of hair on the ground.

Alas, it is only a poor cat that he tried putting on his head. The man will go on being mistaken with seaweed, cow dung, a mop… Until the owner finds it serving as a cozy nest. Right before his eyes, the eggs hatch. He will leave them the wig, which has become much more useful to the young family. The relief of the owner on each page believing he sees his wig, then his disappointment, is a classic in toddlers’ books. An eternally repeated skit is then played between the pages, funny and reassuring for the child, since they know in advance what is going to happen.

The Book of Gill and Flop

Inbar Heller Algazi

A story of friendship carried by a duo of whimsical and endearing characters! The first picture book of a very promising young artist.

• A poetic, whimsical and mischievous first picture by a brilliant young author and illustrator, whose work is being acclaimed on social network.

• A duo of complicit and endearing characters, a story of friendship filled with banter, served by a charming text that children and adults will enjoy reading and reading again.

Inbar Heller Algazi

Born in Berlin in 1994, Inbar Heller Algazi is an Israeli author and illustrator. Today, she lives in Toulouse, France, where she trained at the École de Condé to obtain her bachelor’s degree in Illustration.

She works on a variety of techniques, mixing and exploring everything from monotype to calligraphy, trying to capture poetic moments, little stories, before translating them to paper.

Gill and Flop, little hybrid creatures – one third butterfly, one third centipede, one third something else – have been planning their visit to Mister Hops for weeks. After carefully preparing their luggage, they set off on their big adventure.

On their way, they will meet Charline the bug, a marathon of red ants, but also… not much else, besides the changing landscape that flows by.

It then becomes necessary, in order to pass time,

to invent stories and games. The most perilous

mission of all: bring in one piece the delicate and

precious gift made for Mister Hops. A mission

that seems even more complicated to Gill with a

creature like Flop by his side, so joyful but also

so restless...

(15)

The Zzli Brothers

Alex Cousseau & Anne-Lise Boutin

A story which questions us on our relationship to the other, driven by three attaching and

funny characters.

The Zzli brothers have come from far away! They’ve gone through a long and perilous way to get here.

Welcome, the little girl, welcomes the three travelers into her house, where one can now hear laughter and smell warm pancakes. But it doesn’t take long for a policeman to show up: the neighbours have been complaining. Then, one day, the house burns down…

The Zzli brothers and Welcome leave the house and the woods for good. No doubt the four of them will find a more welcoming home elsewhere.

Alex Cousseau explores the theme of migrants and their reception. Thanks to Anne-Lise Boutin’s colourful and dense illustrations, this subject is wonderfully suited to young audiences and will appeal to children and parents alike.

The Way It Turns

Martine Laffon & Icinori

Since when has the Earth been revolving around the sun? Easy! Since four big giants have been pushing it through the sky, from winter to spring...

One evening of gray moon, four giants undertake a great journey. When they arrive, they assess the new place: it’s small, round, blue, spins very slowly.

So the four giants settle down. The first takes on water, the second fire, the third earth, and the last air. When they wake up, the sun, tired of endlessly revolving around the Earth, challenges them to replace it. Since that day, four big giants have been pushing the Earth through the skies, from winter to spring.

This cosmogony by Martine Laffon invites toddlers to daydream whilst discovering the world. Icinori’s stunning illustrations illuminate and embrace the tale all the way.

Adèle Jolivard

A large format picture book with a multitude of details, a visual feast which will delight children and parents alike!

Wild ducks live in the city, but stay among themselves, all together inside a perfectly comfy hollow tree: it comes with a bathroom, a kitchen, a library and even a piano. Today is a special day: they are planning a big party. Step by step, the young readers will eagerly follow the preparations: the ducks empty their tree of all its furniture and trinkets, bring invitations to all their friends, audition to choose the music... Until the apotheosis: the party!

A poetically yet absurd, funny and, shall we say, necessary picture book.

Chick

Clémence Sabaggh & Magali Le Huche

Gervaise runs and runs around: she has a thousand things to do! She rushes to her numerous

appointments, from New York to Bamako, from Shanghai to Miami, from Paris to Delhi.

Gervaise is an overbooked chick. Even on vacation at the Pullet Vacation Club, she is fully in control.

Nothing stops her.

So when a hurricane blows everything away,

Gervaise starts panicking. What will she do… if there’s nothing to do? But her unexpected encounter with three tiny critters might well change the way she views the world.
