Our Mission: People of God, united in Christ, serving others, welcoming all to the Table of Life

Our Lady of Lourdes † Saint Anne

Dear Friends,

This week I am away on retreat. Priests are required to make an annual week long retreat of prayer and reflection. I find this experience each year to be very helpful. The form of retreat that works best for me is called a

“silent, directed retreat.” With few distractions, I am able to focus on prayer and discerning the movements of the Holy Spirit in my life and heart. While a priest’s retreat may be a requirement, I experience it as gift and blessing. Thank you to Fr. Dan Condon for covering this weekend at Our Lady of Lourdes.

Please save the evenings of July 17th through 26th for the ninetieth St.

Anne Novena. This year our theme is The Challenge and Spirituality of Catholic Social Teaching. Each evening begins at 7PM. We will celebrate evening prayer including within it a 20 25 minute presentation on one of the themes of Catholic Social Teaching as identified by the US Confer- ence of Catholic Bishops. Each evening of the Novena proper (17 25 July) we will conclude by 8PM. On the 26th, the Feast of Ss Anne and Joachim we will celebrate Mass followed by an ice cream social.

Today we celebrate the Body and Blood of Christ. We give thanks for the gift of Christ’s self in the Eucharist, and we pray to become more fully the Body of Christ in the world.

Grace and peace, Fr. Gary Tyman

LITURGICAL MINISTRIES NEXT TO NEW SALE

Saint Anne Church will be hosting its Annual Next to New Sale on August 22, 23 and 24, 2019 from 9:00 AM 6:00 PM on the 22nd and 23rd, and 9:00 AM ± 1:00 PM on the 24th, which is also ½ price Saturday, at St. Anne. Quality donations will be greatly appreciated. Drop off times are Aug. 13 20, 9:00 AM 6:00 PM, except for Sunday, August 18 from 9:00 to 12 noon only, at the Church back entrance. Please call (585)271 3260 for specific questions regarding donations.

The facility is handicap accessible and air conditioned.

Please visit our website for details, & mark these dates on your calendar and have fun discovering new treas- ures!

Sports and music have been two passions of mine for as long as I can remember. As a youth, I enjoyed par- ticipating in various sports leagues, even playing basketball at the collegiate level for a few years. At the same time, musically, I enjoyed the opportunities to take private music lessons, sing in school and church choirs as well as accom- pany various vocal and instrumental ensembles.

While my involvement in sports shifted from being an active participant to cheering on my four children from the sidelines, the opportunities for me to be musically in- volved in the church and community continues to blos- som. It has been a joy to teach piano and vocal lessons for the past 25 years, to be the accompanist for choirs and mu- sicals in both the Brighton and Pittsford school districts, and also to serve at church as a choir member, cantor, ac- companist, children’s choir director, and as a congregation- al singer.

As I have learned through the years, regardless of what we are involved in, it is important for us, as followers of Jesus Christ, to remember that whatever we do, we should “work heartily, as serving the Lord and not men.” (Col. 3:23)

It will be my honor to serve the Lord with you as the OLOL music direc- tor and to work heartily at it. I agree with the sentiments in the quote from the great composer, J.S. Bach, “The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul.” My prayer is that we are able to accomplish that “aim and final end” together as a congregation!

MEET KRISTIN McGINNIS, LOURDES’

ORGANIST & NEW MUSIC DIRECTOR PARISH BULLETIN DESIGN

The cluster staff is working towards redesigning the bulletin to become more like a weekly newsletter with articles about parish life, ministries, and spotlighting the faith life of parishioners.

One piece we want to promote is: “How did I see God this

week?” We hope you will share your faith stories and life

events with us. The focus of any submission should be on how you saw God. For example, perhaps you trusted God with test results and something in that event made you realize “that had to be God”. Or maybe you something happened in the workplace that produced a similar experience.

Unfortunately, we cannot publish everything, but we hope to build our sense of loving communion with one another and to see God in the midst of his people today.

Please submit any faith stories to Dcn. Bill Rabjohn (bill.rabjohn@dor.org) or Jennifer Cummings (Jennifer.cummings@dor.org)

Join Us In Prayer!

This is the list of parishioners, friends, and family we pray for on page 4 of every bulletin. Until now, we haven’t had much ability to know who to keep on the list and who to take off.

Starting July 7th, we’ll remove all names from the list on the first Sunday of every month unless you contact the cluster office and ask for the name to remain.

Let us know if someone has recovered from an illness, had good test results, or had a successful surgery. Perhaps that also might be a good faith story to add to “How I Saw God This Week.”

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Thank you for your dedication to share Christ with our brothers and sisters at Mass and in our Visitation Ministry.

Today, we celebrated the commissioning and blessing of all ministers. Giving gratitude to God for inviting so many to share his Gospel in Word and the Sacrament.

If you know someone who couldn’t be present for this rite, please let them know that “all is well” and we’ll celebrate them another time.

If you’re looking for a great book to read over the

summer, try Bishop Barron’s “Eucharist”. Bishop

Barron does a marvelous job breaking open the rich

theology around the sacrament.
