Recognizing the danger of environmental

pollution

of Kuwait's o i l

Gulf War;

Taking i n t o account the serious

health, psychological

and

s o c i a l

e f f e c t s suffered

by

the

Kuwaiti

people

and

other

peoples of the Region,

result of environmental pollution;

Emphasizing

that t h e b u r n i n g of the o i l wells

in Kuwait is considered

the

world's first

major environmental

d i s a s t e r

such

magnitude;

Noting the destruction and sabotage of a l l environmental

monitoring

equipment

in

Kuwait as a

r e s u l t

of

the war;

Considering the objectives

of

the World _Health Organization stipulated in

i t s Constitution;

CALLS

UPON t h e Member

States

and international organizations

agencies

concerned, to assist Kuwait

in obtaining

the

equipment

necessary to a s s e s s the degree

of environment

pollution;

REQUESTS

the Regional Director to

exert all p o s s i b l e e f f o r t s with

a

v i e w to assigning to Kuwait the services of

environmental specialists

of

the World

Health

Organization, to

determine the present and future

impact of environmental

pollution on health in Kuwait

and to

propose

measures

s t e p s to

be

taken to protect

the health

of the
