OVERVIEW OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY IN FEBRUARY 2003
The purpose of this document is to provide information concerning the operation of the French public transmission network and power system during the past month.
The data published are interim figures dated 15 March 2003.
N A T I O N A L E L E C T R I C A L C O N S U M P T I O N I N F R A N C E
National consumption is the total of all the electrical energy supplied for consumption in France (including Corsica, but not the French Overseas Departments), thermal and hydro generation + imports – exports – pumping, and which have been consumed in the transmission and distribution networks, by the end-users, as well as by losses.

Monthly average : 4.2°C
Deviation from normal temperature : - 1.2°C/normal Deviance from February 2002 : - 4.0°C RTE-in house reference drawn up on basis of METEOFRANCE data
National consumption in February 2003 shows a substantial rise (+12.3%) compared with that of February 2002, despite 5 additional
"Peak Day Withdrawal" (EJP) tariff option requests during this month, due to an average temperature lower by 4°C in February 2003 compared with February 2002.
The adjusted consumption growth rate over 12 sliding months has remained stable since July 2002, while the national consumption growth rate has increased appreciably following the cold spell of this past month, climbing from 0% at the end of December 2002 and January 2003 to 1.3%.

The total volume of injections comes to 47.9 TWh, up by 5.2 TWh compared with February 2002, due to the increased use of generating facilities to cope with the high consumption.
Compared with February 2002, thermal generation is on the rise (+2.1 TWh), as well as hydro output (+2.9 TWh).
Both imports and exports have increased, respectively by +0.2 TWh and +0.4 TWh.
