SYSTEMS FUNCTION PACKAGES

The Easy tab system includes seven Easy tab utility programs, each of which performs some common tabula- ting function. Honeywell now augments these with the increased power and capability of two Easy tab systems function packages: Data File Update B and Report Writer B.

By employing just these two packages along with one utility program (Sort B), the user can completely imple- ment any basic EDP application with little design or pro- gramming effort, as shown below.

Report Writer B

In building a system around these three software com- ponents, a high degree of standardization and simplicity is achieved, not only at the designing and programming levels but at the operational level as well. Thus, these two packages represent a major step forward in the de- velopment of systems planning aids and programming aids to reduce the time, cost, and complexity of systems implementation.

SPECIALIZATION

The basic coding for each of the packages is already written by Honeywell in the COBOL B language. This coding is specialized to the user's particular needs by a Preprocessor program, according to the input parameter cards, which describe the files and reports, and additional COBOL source-language paragraphs supplied by the user.

The output, a completely coded and specialized COBOL source-program deck, is then processed by COBOL Com- piler B to produce an executable program. Certain opera- tional features of each package are controlled by SENSE switch settings at object run time.

DATA FILE UPDATE B

Data File Update B updates a master data file with detail transactions and produces an updated output master file along with a printed listing of the transactions performed. It can also be used to create an edited and formatted output file from an input detail deck alone.

• Master records can be deleted, replaced, or updated by matching detail records; unmatched detail records can be either inserted as new master records or ignored.

• Exits from, and entries to, the main routine allow the user to write his own COBOL paragraphs for the processing of matching master and detail records and of unmatched detail records.

• Up to five key control fields can be specified for master-to-detail record comparison.

• The input detail file can be on either punched cards or magnetic tape; the input and output master files are on tape.

• All deleted master records, all updated master records, and/or any individual detail records can be printed.

• More than one record format can be described for any file.

• The total number of records read or written for each file and the number of master records deleted are automatically printed at the end of the run.

REPORT WRITER B

Report Writer B produces a completely edited listing or tabulation from a sorted input file.

Features

• Up to five key control fields can be specified for use in determining the five possible levels of control breaks in addition to a final total level.

• Exits from, and entries to, the main routine allow the user to write his own COBOL paragraphs for the accumulation of totals and for the formatting of detail and total print lines and summary cards.

• Up to nine total fields can be accumulated.

• The input detail file can be on either punched cards or magnetic tape; the output report is produced on the printer.

• Up to four report heading lines can be supplied for

printing, along with page numbering, at the top of each page of the report.

• The report can be either listed or tabulated.

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

The following minimum equipment is required for the execution of the Preprocessor programs, COBOL Com- piler B, and the resultant executable versions of the two packages:

8,192 characters of core storage,

1 Card Reader jPunch or a separate Card Reader and Card Punch,

3 Magnetic Tape Units, 1 Printer, and

Advanced Programming Instructions and the Edit- ing Instruction.
