Second Term Test -1

Time: 55 minutes

Name: ………Class: 2/G…. 23/03/2017

Where did the name ‘America’ come from? The first Europeans who went to America were the Spanish. They arrived to Florida in 1565 and wanted to find the youth fountain. Did they call it “America?” No, they didn’t. The name came from the Italian cartographer: Amerigo Vespucci. He traveled to “the New World” in 1499 and in 1502. Vespucci wrote about it and many Europeans liked his stories because they were interesting. One successful German man made a map of the entire world. He was worried because he didn’t have a name for this “New World”. So he took Amerigo’s name and called it ‘America’.
