:Z(C:N+I)
>I(c:N), I(C&+I)
<I(C;N) et I(Si;n,l)
<I(Sih), 1(~e&1)
:D(X:xFI)
>D ( X ~ ) et AE(XZN*I)
>AE(XZN) [l].

> 3.Abstract. -The intensities z(x:) or I(X3 of ions X: or X, emitted from a solid target X submitted to an ionic bombardment show some interesting features. In the case of Group I ele- ments, the positive and negative ions X:?TI with an odd number of atoms 2
N 1are more abundant than the ions x:T-. To the contrary, the Group I1 element clusters present a conti- nuous decreasing when n increases. For the Group I11 (aluminium) we observe alternations of the same kind as those of Group I, but less pronounced. Finally, in the Group IV the carbon on the one hand and the silicon and the germanium on the other hand have two different behaviours
:z(C:N,L)
>z(C:N), I(C&I)
<I(C&) and 1(Si:N71) < I(s~:N), I(G~&)
<z(G~:N) and
continuous decreasing for Sii and Ge,.
These observations can be explained by calculating the physical constants of the observed clusters D(x:) and AE(X,) (D(x~) cohesive energy per atom of X:, AE(Xn) electronic affinity of Xn).
The calculations are undertaken in the Huckel approximation. First we determine for a given par- ticle and a given
nthe stablest shape, then we compare for various n the physical constants. Our results agree with experiments
:for instance in the case of Group I, we obtain D(XPN*I)
>D(XPN) and AE(XZN*I)
>AE(X2iq) [l]. The same model applies to Groups I1 and I11 and also to hete- ronuclear clusters made up of atoms of these Groups [2].
The calculations undertaken for Group IV are more complex because we have to take into account the formation of hybrids. However, after having fixed the parameters of a Hiickel model by comparison with previous calculations on band structure of solid carbon and silicon, we have obtained the physical constants of the clusters. Generally speaking our results still agree with experiments and the stablest shapes given by our calculation are in agreement with solid structures when n becomes of the order of 10
