Mathematical statistics in physics and astronomy - exam Radu Stoica - Universit´ e Lille 1
September 2014, Tartu University
The exam consists of an oral presentation of a scientific paper followed by a free discus- sion about the topics presented in the paper, on the basis of what it was presented in the course. The time for the presentation and the discussion is 15 minutes, for each. The presentation should not contain more than 10 slides. The students may use the course documents, the blackboard and their own computers to support their arguments and to answer questions. I really encourage the students to make groups of two persons for this work. Groups of three or more students are not allowed, while groups made of a single student are tolerated.
The deadline for communicating me the student teams is the 17th of September. The exam will take place at the Toravere Observatory, the 29th and the 30th of September.
The timetable for the examination will be fixed the 19th of September.
The paper to be read is : ”Modern statistics fro spatial point processes” by J. Møller and R. P. Waagepetersen, Scandinavian Journal of Statistics, 34(4), pp. 643-684, 2007.
Good luck :) !
