2021 Christmas Food Drive Coming Up at SFC

The holiday season is rapidly approaching, and the St. Frances Cabrini Men’s Club will once again be

sponsoring and operating the Annual SFC Holiday Food Drive.

This event has served the less fortunate of the SFC Parish and the Cambrian Park community for over 50 years.

We expect to serve 150 families from the Cambrian Park community, and will be providing 50 boxes and turkeys and hams to families supported by the St. Vincent de Paul Society branch at St. Lucy’s.

Additionally we will be providing financial support to Christ the King Parish as we have for the past ten years — assisting 75 additional families per year.

Food Donations: Food donations will be limited to hams for Christmas.

Food items we will accept are multi-pack items such as soup, canned items in unopened boxes, or with manufacturer’s shrink wrap intact.

No individually packaged canned or food items will be accepted.

Gifts: At Christmas, we will not be providing toys for our guests; we will provide gift cards.

How to Donate: Please make checks payable to “SFC Men’s Club”

with a notation on the check, “Holiday Food Drive.’’ Checks can be dropped off at Mass or sent directly to the Parish Office. You can also donate online — go to Faith Direct and make a one-time gift. In the Note section, state your gift intention, e.g., “Holiday Food Drive.”

This operation is handled entirely by volunteers. There is no overhead

— all donations are utilized for food and gift cards.

Volunteers: We will need a limited number of volunteers, they must meet Diocese requirements for COVID safety. Due to safety concerns, no children may volunteer for this event.go to the sign-up to volunteer:

signup.com/go/dLxOEbt

Christmas Distribution Date: Sat., December 18th.

We will begin packing boxes at 8:00 am in the gym, and begin distribution from 9:30 am to 12:00 Noon.

Thank you,

Steve Crooks & John Dahl, SFC Men’s Club

We thank our regular donors for the contin- ued support in helping us keep our food pan- try stocked year round — clubs, organizations, parishioners, our school families and children.

Altar of Remembrance Photo Pick-up

Since the Advent season starts on November 28th, the parish is asking that all photos from the altar of remembrance be picked up no later than Friday, November 26th.

After the photos are taken down, they will be placed at the back of the church for pick-up. All photos left after December 5th will be removed so we kindly ask that you remember to pick up your photos placed on the altar.

Cemetery Visitations & Pilgrimages

The month of November reminds us of the Communion of Saints which we profess in the Creed. Catholics are encouraged to visit cemeteries, sacred grounds, especially in November. As you visit either Gate of Heaven or Calvary cemetery, make it a pilgrimage in honor of Saint Joseph.

Both cemeteries are designated as pilgrim- age sites during this Year of Saint Joseph (ending on December 8th.)

Bingo Coming Back Soon

Bingo is working on opening its doors soon. For the safety of our volunteers and players, we are making sure to follow all Diocese of San Jose and Santa Clara County Health guidelines. Visit our SFCabrini.org website and SFC Facebook for ongoing updates.

Prayer Shawl Ministry Update

& Invitation

Dear Parishioners,

On behalf of the Prayer Shawl Ministry we thank you for all your support over the last 12 years. As you know our ministry touched so many lives as well as our own. We made over 3000 prayer shawls, including hats and scarves that were made for the needy. Unfortunately, due to health issues I have stepped down from this ministry in the hopes that one of our group members would have taken my place as coordinator.

For this reason, I would like to reach out to our parishioners if anyone would be interest- ed in becoming the next coordinator of this beautiful ministry. If anyone is interested I have the book “Knitting into the Mystery,” which is a guide to the shawl-knitting ministry. Not only is it well written but filled with inspirations to assist you. I only ask that you pray for spiritual guidance if this ministry is for you.

You can reach me by email at alegrereb@comcast.net or call me at 408-679-2280.

My heart has been filled with great gratitude, thank you for your support you all gave us over the past 12 years.

With the love of Jesus,

our Lord and Savior blessings to all of you.

pm for visiting pilgrims.

Christ, The King

The selection from the book of Daniel pre- sented in today’s first reading was part of an attempt to weave a vision of ultimate success for the Jews under persecution. Exactly whom the author had in mind when he refers to

“one like a Son of Man” is hotly disputed by scholars today. The fact is, we simply do not know if the author meant anyone in partic- ular or if this is a collective, figurative image of Israel’s triumph. What we do know is that the early Christian community seized upon this passage and recognized it as a messi- anic prophecy, a foretelling of the ultimate triumph of Jesus as the Christ of God. The Lectionary’s juxtaposition of this text with today’s Gospel narrative of Jesus before Pilate is a wonderful example of how the liturgy

“layers” passages with new meaning by inserting them in a particular context.

The celebration of Christ the King allows us to hear these passages with a new depth of meaning in light of our contemporary under- standing of how, in Jesus and his resurrection and ascension, we have seen the fulfillment of Daniel’s vision of ultimate deliverance.

The veiled admission of Jesus before Pilate that he did indeed have a kingdom “not here”

takes on new meaning against the cosmic vision of Daniel, who allows us to glimpse the

“Ancient One” on his heavenly throne.
