J ALLOCATION OF FUNDS FOR REGIONAL OFFICES

The Executive Boards at its second session, authorised the Director-General to allot a sum, not to exceed ^200,ООО, for the administrative functions of existing Regional Organizations or those to be established in the near future. It agreed to consider at a later session the allocation of the sum of $100,000 for the development of additional regional organizations• In the event of their not being established in 1949д this sum would be made available to the Regional Offices already in existence (EB2/96, Rev. 1)#

As indicated below, there are expected to be a total of three Regional Offices during 1949 It is not expected that additional

offices will be established in this period. The status of the Regional Offices is as follows :

The Regional Office for South East Asia has already been established.

An arrangement has been signed (EB3/22 Add. 1) whereby the Pan-¿\merican Sanitary Bureau will serve as the Regional Office of the Organization for the Western Hemisphere, effective from

1 March 1949•

The Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean Region has been reconmiended for establishment on 1 July 1949 (EB3/55).

It is estimated that ^300,000 will be required for operation of the above-^nentioned Offices during 1949. The Executive Board may therefore wish to consider the following resolution:
