We mention here an error in the statement of the configurations that are covered by the theory of T-coercivity presented in the paper ‘‘Time harmonic wave diffrac- tion problems in materials with sign-shifting coefficients’’ [J. Comput. Appl. Math.

doi:10.1016/j.cam.2009.08.041].

There is an error in Section 3.1, in the statement of the configurations that are covered by the theory ofT-coercivity.

Namely, the checkerboard-like configurations are not covered, in the sense that the definitions of Sobolev spaces and norms on the interfaceΣare incorrect in this case. However, the theory ofT-coercivity remains applicable in all other cases.

So, the first line of Section 3.1 should be replaced by:

‘‘LetΩbe an open bounded subset ofRd,d=2,3. It is assumed that this domain can be split into two sub-domainsΩ1

andΩ2with Lipschitz-continuous boundaries:Ω =12,Ω12= ∅’’.

Acknowledgement

We thank Prof. J. Pasciak for pointing out this error.
