Abstract. From the perspective of a search engine, Information Extraction and the Semantic Web are complimentary ways toward achieving the same goal: helping the search engine to understand the content on the Web and the possible intents of the users trying to retrieve it. In this talk, we will discuss some of the ways in which methods of Information Extraction as well as explicit metadata on the Web are exploited at Yahoo Search.
