History
Clinical examination
May: history reports a period of hyperthermia, anorexia, depression and weight loss antibiotic (lincomycin and ceftiofur) + anti-inflammatory (steroid) recovery July: the boar fell down after a supervised natural mating
August: the boar presents a bilateral swelling of the scrotum
The boar has a good general condition and a normal appetite
Scrotal palpation is painless - the left hemiscrotum is more enlarged than the right one
Hematoma Hydrocele
(Peri-)orchitis, epididymitis (Aujeszky disease virus, Brucella suis,…) Scirrhous cord (after castration)
Scrotal hernia Testicular neoplasia
Serology: negative result for Aujeszky disease/brucellosis/chlamydiosis Ultrasonography: multiple hypoechogenic cavities around testes
Semen analysis: azoospermia
Necropsy: kystic structures (serous fluid) surrounded by an abondant fibrous connective tissue Histopathology: lymphocytes/hemosiderophages around the kysts + hyperplasia of interstitial
tissue in detriment to seminiferous tubules + no sign of spermatogenesis in testis
Laboratory investigations
August: a 3-year-old Landrace boar is referred to the Swine clinic
Normal scrotum of a 2-year-old boar
Examination (clinical case)
Differential diagnosis of scrotal swelling (most likely causes)
Testis (T) and tail of epididymis (E)

Hydrocele (H) and testis (T)

Diagnosis
Abondant fibrous connective tissue Left
testis
Bilateral scrotal swelling with a traumatic origin: observed lesions seem to be the result of a partial resorption of a complex extratesticular hematoma
Ultrasonography (clinical case) Necropsy (in October)
