On March 19, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty pre-sented SSHRC President Chad Gaffield with the 2008 Francophile award, at the prestigious Ontario Franco-phonie Awards.
Created by the Ontario government in 2006 and issued every two years, the Francophonie Awards “recognize individuals who help foster a stronger Francophone community in Ontario.” “The contributions of these outstanding people have made our Francophone com-munity stronger—and that enriches our entire provin-ce”, said Premier McGuinty.
“I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to contribute to our historical understanding of the French-language dimensions of Ontario, and to have worked in a university environment that fosters bilin-gualism and an appreciation of how linguistic diversity enhances the richness of all our lives,” Gaffield said.

Le 19 mars dernier, le premier ministre de l’Ontario, Dalton McGuinty, a octroyé à Chad. Gaffield, prési-dent du CRSHC, l’un des deux prestigieux Prix de la francophonie de l’Ontario afin de souligner sa contri-bution à la communauté francophone.
Créés en 2006 et décernés tous les deux ans, les Prix de la francophonie « rendent hommage aux person-nes qui contribuent aux progrès de la communauté francophone en Ontario. » « Les contributions de ces personnes remarquables ont rendu notre communauté francophone plus forte et cela enrichit notre province dans son ensemble », a ajouté M. McGuinty.
« Je me sens très choyé d’avoir pu contribuer à une meilleure compréhension, d’un point de vue histori-que, de la dimension francophone de l’Ontario. Choyé aussi d’avoir travaillé dans un environnement univer-sitaire et de recherche qui met l’accent sur le bilinguis-me et apprécie la manière dont la diversité linguistique enrichit nos vies, a indiqué M. Gaffield.
Ian E. Wilson a été élu président du Conseil
inter-national des Archives (ICA). Il amorcera son mandat de deux ans à la fin de juillet 2008, après la tenue du congrès de l’ICA à Kuala Lumpur, en Malaisie.
L’ICA est l’organisme professionnel de la commu-nauté archivistique internationale, voué à promou-voir la préservation, le développement et l’utilisation du patrimoine archivistique mondial. Ses quelque 1400 membres-organismes proviennent de 190 pays. L’ICA réunit des institutions nationales d’archives, des associations professionnelles d’archivistes, des ar-chives régionales ou locales et des arar-chives d’autres organismes. Il accueille aussi des archivistes à titre individuel. Le Conseil a pour objectif de promouvoir la gestion et l’utilisation de documents et d’archives, et de préserver, partout dans le monde, le patrimoine archivistique de l’humanité.

In-ternational Council on Archives (ICA). His two-year mandate will begin at the end of July 2008, following the ICA Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The ICA is the professional organization for the world archival community, dedicated to promoting the pre-servation, development, and use of the world’s ar-chival heritage.
