Le groupe de travail estime que les recommandations émises par les différents organismes (2-12) cités dans ce rapport peuvent, sous réserve des commentaires apportés, être appliquées en France en ce qui concerne la radiographie panoramique et les clichés rétro-alvéolaires et rétro-coronaires.

Il souligne que les critères de sélections proposés sont donnés à titre indicatifs et ne sauraient qu’être complémentaires de l’anamnèse et de l’examen clinique du patient. Les clichés panoramiques, les clichés intra-oraux rétroalvéolaires et rétrocoronaires constituent les examens de base du praticien odontologiste et stomatologiste. Ces examens ne s’excluent pas, ils sont complémentaires.

Dans l’intérêt du patient, il doit y avoir une gradation dans les moyens développés, c’est-à-dire éviter d’utiliser des techniques consommatrices en moyen humains et techniques (scanner ...) si des examens plus simples selon les mêmes critères, permettent un diagnostic équivalent.

la prise en compte et l’évaluation d’autres techniques d’imagerie existantes (scanner à Rx, IRM, échographie....). Dans un avenir proche, les techniques de numérisation remplaceront les techniques conventionnelles.

Compte tenu de cette évolution rapide, le groupe de travail souligne l’urgence d’une évaluation.

Le groupe de travail insiste enfin sur le fait qu’une meilleure utilisation de l’imagerie passe par la nécessaire preuve d’une compétence à l’utilisation et à la lecture de l’imagerie. En ce sens, des programmes d’assurance qualité comprenant en particulier la formation du praticien doivent impérativement être mis en place dans un avenir proche.
